Get Involved with the People of African Descent Stakeholder Group (PAD SG)
Be part of the global movement for recognition, justice, and sustainable development for people of African descent.
The People of African Descent Stakeholder Group (PAD SG) is an official United Nations-recognized mechanism for individuals and organizations committed to advancing the rights and development of people of African descent within the global sustainable development agenda.
We welcome members who are aligned with our mission, values, and objectives. Join us in shaping policies, influencing processes, and driving change for a world free of racism, discrimination, and inequality.
Who Can Join?
You are eligible if you are:
- A civil society organization, network, or grassroots group working at the global, regional, national, or local level to combat racism, racial discrimination, and promote the rights and well-being of people of African descent.
- An individual activist, expert, scholar, or advocate engaged in work related to people of African descent communities, anti-racism, reparations, climate justice, human rights, and sustainable development.
Membership includes but is not limited to:
- NGOs
- Youth-led organizations
- Women-led organizations
- Faith-based groups
- Community-based organizations
- Academic and research institutions
- Professional networks
- Movements focused on racial justice, climate justice, migration, and development
- individual activists
Membership Criteria
To become a member of PAD SG, you must:
- Commit to the mission, vision, and principles of the People of African Descent Stakeholder Group, including the promotion of human rights, anti-racism, and sustainable development.
- Demonstrate a track record of work or strong interest in issues affecting people of African descent at local, national, regional, or international levels.>
- Be willing to actively participate in PAD SG activities, including:
- Engagement in UN processes (e.g., High-Level Political Forum, CSW, and others).
- Contribution to PAD SG’s thematic Sub-Committees, Working Groups, or Regional activities.
- Commit to principles of collaboration, transparency, diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect.
- Support the work of Regional and UN Focal Points when applicable, including regional consultations and advocacy.
- Agree to comply with the governance, working methods, and values outlined in the Terms of Reference (ToR) of PAD SG.
What Does Membership Involve?
- Access to information and briefings on UN processes and sustainable development mechanisms.
- Participation in shaping joint policy positions, statements, and submissions to the UN and other bodies.
- Opportunities to engage in capacity-building, training, and collaborative advocacy.
- A role in decision-making processes within PAD SG, including elections, working groups, and thematic task forces.
- Representation opportunities at UN events (HLPF, UNGA, CSW, PFAD, among others).
